Riga has witnessed a historic event: the Riga International Exhibition Centre, Ķīpsala, became the epicenter of European bridge for 19 days, hosting the European National Teams and Youth Championships EuroBridge 2026 for the first time in the Baltic States. Over 1,000 players from 32 countries competed across 9 categories, with a total of approximately 2,000 participants including players, coaches, referees, supporters, and federation representatives. The flawless organization of the event was ensured by 34 volunteers and around 40 technical staff.
The final highlight of EuroBridge 2026 was the awarding of winners at the 30th RTU European Youth Bridge Championship. In the junior competition, 76 youth teams from 26 countries, including Latvia, competed for titles in five categories. In the U16 group, Poland won gold, Israel silver, and Norway bronze. The same ranking applied to the U21 group. In U26, the Netherlands claimed gold, Israel and Estonia took silver and bronze respectively, while in the U26 Women’s category, Poland won first place, Denmark second, and Italy third. The U31 group champions were France, with Poland taking silver and Turkey bronze.
“This has been one of the biggest events in the bridge world this year, and believe me, it’s no small feat! The European Bridge League has 42 member countries, and 32 of them were represented here in Latvia. We have experienced everything a thrilling sports event can offer: excitement, victory, tension, and pride for colleagues from other countries as well as our own. It is very rewarding to see what has been accomplished – a bright chapter in Latvia’s bridge history alongside many other notable achievements. Thanks to all participants, partners, supporters, volunteers, and everyone who helped make EuroBridge 2026 happen and created an unforgettable championship atmosphere!” said Kārlis Rubins, Board Member of SIA “Bridge Academy,” European Vice-Champion in team competitions and World Vice-Champion in Mixed Pairs.

Bridge is far more than just a card game – it is a strategic mind sport that enhances logical thinking, planning, focus, and teamwork. Playing bridge helps children learn to make independent decisions, anticipate opponents’ moves, and communicate effectively, building vital skills that are useful in all areas of life. At its core, bridge is also a fantastic family game, allowing parents and children to spend quality time together, strengthen relationships, and share memorable experiences.
To inspire a new generation of players, Latvia actively promotes Le Petit Bridge. Specially designed for children from the age of 6, this program introduces the basic principles of the game in a simplified, engaging format.
